Family history works backwards: from what you know to what you don't.
First steps
- Write down your own details: full name, birth date and place
- Add your parents, then your grandparents
- Note where each fact came from
- Mark guesses clearly as guesses
- Pick one line of the family to research first
Why sources matter
Writing down where each fact came from lets you, and anyone after you, check it later. It also stops you repeating searches.
